Third Level
Suas Educational Development has been our strategic partner for global citizenship education in third level colleges since 2012. Suas currently delivers the STAND Global Citizenship Programme in thirteen higher-level institutions across Ireland. The programme includes a range of awareness-raising activities that enable students to take constructive action on global justice issues.
The STAND programme includes:
- The STAND Global Issues Course
- The STAND Ideas Collective
- The STAND Student Festival (exhibition, film screenings, panel discussions, debates and workshops)
- STAND News
- The STAND Global Issues Course runs each spring for one evening a week, for six weeks, at campuses across Ireland. In some colleges, the Global Issues Mini Course is offered in autumn.
- The Ideas Collective is held over the summer months, this programme inspires and encourages ideas for social or environmental action relating to global issues.
- The STAND Student Festival is run by students, for students, to raise awareness about the burning issues shaping the world around us. This annual festival consists of an outdoor exhibition with supporting learning events and activities. The festival was held online in autumn 2020.
- STAND News is run by student editors and contributors who address issues of justice, equality and international development with a view to creating positive change.

Primary School Initial Teacher Education
The DICE (Development and Intercultural Education) programme in Initial Teacher Education is a national strategic educational initiative since 2003. It empowers student teachers to teach about global development issues and to encourage equal respect for one's own and other cultures both locally and globally. The project works to build the capacity of lecturers and student teachers so that teachers graduating will have an understanding of development education and intercultural education and will be motivated and equipped with the pedagogic skills and values to teach these topics effectively. Irish Aid supports DICE in four colleges of education.

Post-Primary School Initial Teacher Education
The Ubuntu Network, based in the University of Limerick, works to embed global citizenship education into post-primary Initial Teacher Education (ITE) in 13 member HEI institutions in Ireland. The goal is to support teacher educators and student teachers to engage with local and global development issues, to see how they are relevant to their subject areas and disciplines, and to understand the value that such perspectives bring to teaching.
